Conscious change, rooted in community.

For twenty years, on the edge of the Sunderbans, we've helped children read, families earn, and whole communities grow stronger — one household at a time.

Our story

It began with a classroom.

In 2005, in Amtali village in the Gosaba block of the Sunderbans, SACHETA began teaching the children that distance and poverty had left behind.

Many were the first in their families to ever attend school. So we started simply — with supplementary classes that met children where they were. Two decades on, Navadisha has nurtured more than 7,000 students, and that single act has grown into six connected programs.

The belief underneath them hasn't changed: lasting change begins with awareness — sacheta — and awareness begins at home.

The place & the need

The Sunderbans don't make anything easy.

Rivers cut villages off from schools and clinics. Work pulls parents away. The land itself shifts with the tide and the climate.

In a place like this, no single program is enough. A child can't learn on an empty stomach; a family can't plan for tomorrow while bracing for the next storm. So we don't work in isolation — we work the way life here actually works: everything connected.

The model

Six programs, one connected approach.

Not six separate efforts, but one reinforcing ecosystem. Education is the entry point; health builds trust; the rest keep families engaged and lift the whole community.
